2020 Dubai Expo: Pakistan pavilion going to unveil part of world’s largest Quran

As stated by Khaleej Times, the Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai would feature a portion of the world's largest Holy Quran.Award-winning Pakistani artist “Shahid Rassam” is working on a first project to cast entire Holy Quran using aluminum and gold-plated characters.

He will reveals Surah-e-Rahman cast on a canvas utilizing aluminum and gold-plated calligraphy for the very first time in more than 1,400 years of History of Islam. The masterpiece will be on exhibit outside of the Pakistani Pavilion from 24 January.

Around six pages, the Surah-e-Rahman will be displayed. The first two pages include just five lines each, however the latter four pages contain ten lines each. There are 78 verses in Surah-e-Rahman.

In answer to a question, he revealed that Surah-e-Rahman is cast upon the one-of-a-kind canvas utilizing 15kg of aluminum and above one kilogram of gold. 

"With the help of a group of 200 artists, painters, calligraphers, designers, and sculptor, I completed this incredible Surah-e-Rahman mission in four months," Rassam stated.Shahid Rassam has indeed spent five years in Karachi hand-crafting many pages. He currently seems to have a team of 200 highly trained artists and calligraphers working on the 5-square-meter Quran, which he expects to finish by 2026.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the pages measured 2.6 meters by 1.98 meters, and the Holy Quran will contain 550 pages when finished, It will be bigger than the current largest Quran, which itself is 2 meters tall and 1.52 meters wide.

Shahid Rassam, speaking at a press conference at the Pakistan Association in Dubai, stated, "To cast approximately 80,000 words on 550 sheets, I'll use nearly 200kg gold and 2,000kg aluminum. There will be 150 words on each page.”

The project was supported by Irfan Mustafa, a Dubai-based entrepreneur as well as business leader who persuaded Rassam to present his work at Expo 2020. 

Rassam's work impressed him, and he thought the Quran initiative will be a wonderful complement to Expo 2020 Dubai.

"This is a magnificent work of art that is unique in the world. I am confident that fair attendees would notice and admire Rassam and his team's efforts "Mustafa stated.

Mr.Rassam further added that "This artwork will be unique, because it will be the very first of its style. I am quite optimistic and convinced that both Muslims and non-Muslims would like it. And when people see it, they'll consider what's written as well as what it means, and they'll think deeply on it."

Various pavilions expressed intention of showing the verses, however the artist and his volunteers decided to present Surah Rahman at the Pakistan Pavilion.

Afzaal Mahmood, Pakistan's Representative to the UAE, and Abdul Razak Dawood, the Prime Minister's Senior advisor on Trade and Finance, senior government officials from Expo 2020, ambassadors and business executives will be attending to launch the world's first-of-its-kind initiative at the world's largest expo, which is being held in Dubai for the first time in the region.
